Have you ever been too afraid of failing to even attempt to start what you truly desire?
Has the fear of change ever been enough to make you put down your goals and dreams and just, settle?
Have you ever had a moment of hesitation that kind of kept going, for years?
One of the biggest fears to overcome in everyone’s life, I believe, is the fear of the unknown outcome from a change in lifestyle. Moving, for instance, throws many people into a panic! Where will I live? What will it be like? How much will it cost? Where will I work? Will my kids be happy? Etc, etc and ad nauseum.
Changing jobs is also another big anxiety booster. What if I’m not good at it? What if I hate my co-workers? What if I get fired? What if I regret leaving my current job?
Ending a relationship. Don’t even get me started! What if he really will change? I don’t want to hurt his feelings! I’m afraid of being alone. What if I’m lonely? But I’ve invested so much time. What if …
If you are contemplating changing jobs relationships, or zip codes there is a REASON and usually the reason is you aren’t happy where you are. Your intuition is telling you (SCREAMING at the top of it’s lungs in some cases!) that you need to move on for the sake of your own personal growth, safety, sanity, and happiness.
The thing with change is that no one can guarantee you anything. No one can guarantee that you’ll fit in right away, or the new skills will come naturally, or your social calendar will be filled within a week. No one can predict that. YOU get to CREATE that.
With change comes great personal responsibility to CREATE the outcome. Sure, it might take longer than you thought, sure it’s going to be a challenge, but that’s the FUN!
Too often we think of everything we stand to LOSE from change. But how is that mindset helpful in creating a new life that you love?
I’ve actually worked and worked over the years to retrain my way of thinking to look for what could be GAINED. There are no “losses” per se, there is only evolution. We accumulate and we shed. We learn and we forget. The things that we leave behind are not lost, they are simply no longer needed.
Really, the FREEDOM that comes from shedding old baggage is more valuable that any sort of “thing” that you could drag along with you!
At the end of the day, we aren’t taking any of this with us.
You can BURN IT ALL TO THE GROUND and walk away and guess what? You will be ok.
In fact, you might just find that the process forges you into the strongest, purest, and most authentic version of YOU.
The more often you put yourself into a position that FORCES you to dig deep, prioritize, examine your values, and get SERIOUS about YOUR vision for YOUR future the swifter you will get there.
When you discard the extra baggage, filter your friends, quit censoring your voice, and LOCK YOUR SIGHTS on where you want to be next…
Well, I don’t have to tell you how liberating and free you will feel. You know you will.
At the end of the day, whether we make the switch, take the leap, change it up or NOT doesn’t impact anyone but yourself. We will all find our own ways and create our own lives and those of us who CHOOSE the path of personal responsibility will also be the one’s who show our children what that looks like. Being successful in the world I think comes from knowing oneself and never ending the learning process. Always growing, expanding, and leaping, and YES, that means having to have the courage to let things go.
Don’t look back.
Don’t indulge in regret.
You’ll be fine.
You’ll figure it out.
Get in motion. Light the freaking match.
And remember, the ONLY constant is change.
